Safeguarding
Our commitment to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Last updated: 30 August 2026
Cambridge Skills Hub is an education, training and workforce development organisation. Safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults is fundamental to our work. We are committed to creating safe environments for learning and to promoting the welfare of everyone who engages with our services.
This page sets out our safeguarding principles and expectations. Detailed operational procedures are maintained internally and shared with staff, learners and partners as appropriate.
1. Our Commitment
We believe that everyone has the right to be safe and treated with dignity and respect. Cambridge Skills Hub is committed to:
- Promoting the welfare and safety of children, young people and vulnerable adults;
- Providing clear safeguarding expectations within our training and education programmes;
- Working responsibly with schools, employers and training partners;
- Responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns;
- Encouraging a culture in which concerns can be raised without fear.
2. Scope
This commitment applies to:
- All Cambridge Skills Hub staff, contractors and volunteers;
- Learners participating in or registering interest for our programmes;
- Partners, placement settings and organisations we work with;
- Anyone attending our Cambridge premises or participating in our activities.
3. Teaching Assistant and Education Programmes
Programmes relating to education settings — including Teaching Assistant training — include safeguarding awareness as a core element of professional development. Learners are expected to understand that working with children and young people carries significant responsibilities.
Training content covers areas such as:
- Understanding safeguarding and child protection;
- Recognising signs that a child may be at risk;
- Professional conduct and appropriate boundaries;
- Reporting concerns through the correct channels in education settings;
- SEND awareness and inclusive practice in the classroom.
Completion of awareness training does not replace the safeguarding policies and procedures of individual schools or employers, which must always be followed when working in education settings.
4. Safer Recruitment and Suitability
Where Cambridge Skills Hub recruits staff or engages individuals to deliver services involving access to children or vulnerable groups, we apply appropriate safer recruitment practices, which may include identity checks, reference checks and enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks where required by role and law.
Learners seeking roles in schools must comply with the safer recruitment and safeguarding requirements of their employing or placement setting.
5. Working With Schools and Partners
We recognise that schools and education settings have their own designated safeguarding leads and statutory responsibilities. When working with schools, colleges, employers and training providers, we expect:
- Clear lines of communication regarding safeguarding responsibilities;
- Compliance with relevant legislation and local authority procedures;
- Prompt reporting of concerns through established channels;
- Cooperation in reviewing and improving safeguarding practice where appropriate.

- The NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000 or via nspcc.org.uk.
7. Expectations of Learners and Visitors
All learners, visitors and participants are expected to:
- Behave professionally and respectfully at all times;
- Follow instructions relating to health, safety and safeguarding;
- Report any concerns about the welfare of a child or vulnerable adult promptly;
- Not engage in behaviour that could harm, exploit or put others at risk;
- Use IT facilities and online communications responsibly and lawfully.
We reserve the right to take appropriate action — including removal from programmes or premises — where behaviour falls below expected standards or poses a safeguarding risk.
8. Online Safety
Where training includes online or blended delivery, learners must use technology responsibly. This includes protecting personal information, communicating appropriately, and reporting any online safety concerns. We do not tolerate cyberbullying, harassment or the sharing of inappropriate material.
9. Training and Awareness
Cambridge Skills Hub ensures that staff and associates involved in education-facing activity receive appropriate safeguarding awareness. We review our safeguarding approach regularly to reflect best practice and regulatory expectations in the education and training sector.
10. Review
This safeguarding information is reviewed periodically and updated as our programmes and partnerships develop. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when this page was last revised.
